Nominate a local young achiever

The Betty Makin Youth Awards recognise creative and community-minded young people.

Do you know an inspiring young person or youth worker? Nominations are now open for this year’s Betty Makin Youth Awards. You can nominate someone you believe would be a worthy recipient.

Named after local activist Betty Makin, the awards recognise participation and service by young people and those who work with young people.

Betty was one of Redfern’s great community leaders and helped set up The Factory - a drop-in centre for young people in Waterloo. She served on dozens of voluntary and community support groups, fostering community spirit and improving the lives of local residents.

This year’s youth awards will celebrate creativity and community mindedness. There’ll be 2 winners from each category. Each winner will receive a $500 voucher.

Industry awards will recognise both the youth worker and the outstanding partnership of the year.

Nominations close Friday 8 March.
