5 reasons to join Ride2Work Day

Australia’s biggest celebration of riding on Wednesday 19 October.

Riding a bike is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to get to work. More than 30,000 people in the City of Sydney’s area ride a bike each week. It’s fast and safe using our cycleways and shared paths.

Riding to work is often the fastest and most convenient way to travel. Our network of cycleways and shared paths makes the journey safe and smooth.

5 reasons to ride to work

1. Protect our future

Every kilometre you ride a bike instead of driving a car saves more than 240g of carbon, slowing global warming and reducing climate change.

2. Reduce your commute time

A 5km to 10km ride to work will only take 15 to 30 minutes on average. Peak-hour city trips up to 10km are generally faster by bike than any other form of transport, door to door.

3. Save money

People who ride to work not only cut travel time and get fit but save between $6,000 and $15,000 which is usually spent on fuel, car repairs, public transport and parking.

4. Feel better and focus more

Organisations that encourage employees to ride to work benefit from increased productivity due to improved fitness, physical health and mental health.

5. Improve your health and wellbeing

A regular ride to work can help you keep up regular physical activity. This helps your health and reduces the risk of chronic disease and depression.

Our cycling in the city course can boost your riding confidence. The weekly courses cost just $25.

We offer free and low-cost resources and services to support people riding:
