Be part of the Sydney Lunar Festival community performance program

We're seeking applications from groups to participate in the celebrations.

SydneyLunarFestival-0461

The Sydney Lunar Festival is the largest celebration of its kind outside mainland China.

Join the festival as an entertainer if your group or performance celebrates the Lunar New Year, one of the cultures that observe the Lunar New Year or the Year of the Tiger.

If successful, your group will be placed into one of the following shows.

Outdoor stage performance at Chinatown

The performance will take place at the Lunar Lanes street party in Chinatown.

  • Saturday 29 January 2022, 5pm to 10pm

The stage will be located on Sussex Street on a 6m wide raised stage with professional lighting, audio and stage management team.

Successful groups will be paid $300 for their involvement in the festival. If you present more than one performance piece, you’ll be paid $300 for each selected.

Indoor stage performances at Sydney Town Hall

The performance will take place at an indoor venue on an 8m wide raised stage with professional lighting, audio and stage management team.

  • Saturday 12 February 2022, 10am to 5pm

Successful groups will be paid $300 for their involvement in the festival. If you present more than one performance piece, you’ll be paid $300 for each selected.

Roving performances in Haymarket

There’ll also be opportunities for groups to be contracted as roving entertainers.

This will be a street level, pop-up style performance with greater opportunities for crowd interaction. Roving performances will be supported with basic audio and will undertake training from the City of Sydney. Each roving performance will be about 1 hour and each group must commit to a minimum of 3 performances on the following dates (please note performance time is to be confirmed):

  • Saturday 29 January 2022 from 5pm to 9pm
  • Sunday 30 January 2022 from 6pm to 8pm
  • Friday 4 February 2022 from 6pm to 8pm
  • Saturday 5 February 2022 from 6pm to 8pm
  • Sunday 6February 2022 from 6pm to 8pm
  • Friday 11 February 2022 from 6pm to 8pm
  • Saturday 12 February 2022 from 6pm to 8pm
  • Sunday 13 February 2022 from 6pm to 8pm

We’ll discuss suitable performance schedules and roving requirements with successful groups. Performing groups will be paid $1,800 for their involvement (or $600 per performance).

To be part of the official festival program, groups must specialise in highly choreographed traditional or contemporary performances.
