Zetland Avenue west is a new tree-lined boulevard in Green Square. It connects people and places in the new town centre, including community facilities such the library, plaza and aquatic centre.
The new avenue is also home to important upcoming community spaces and buildings, including the soon-to-be-completed Drying Green and Green Square Public School and Community Spaces.
The Drying Green will be a vital cooling public space, home to public artwork and facilities such as picnic tables and barbecue areas. It’s expected to open in June 2022.
Construction of the Green Square Public School and Community Spaces, on Zetland Avenue between Portman Street and Joynton Avenue, is due to being soon.
Zetland Avenue has extensive tree planting to provide shade, wide footpaths, water fountains and places to sit, as well as new separated cycleways and shared paths.
New bike links along the avenue connect Green Square to the broader bike network, making it easier for people riding to make local trips or commute into the city centre.
We’ve also completed improvements to Portman Street, including a new separated cycleway, landscaping and tree planting as well as placing powerlines underground.
