Architecture event Sydney Open lets you walk through the corridors of history.

If you’ve ever wandered past some of these classic Sydney buildings and thought “I wonder what it’s like in there”, now’s your chance.

For the first weekend in November, 40 of the city’s most interesting places and spaces will be open to the public.

Sydney Town Hall

Sydney Town Hall was built on what was once the first cemetery. Dating back to the 1790s the site is commonly known as the old Sydney burial ground. Today it’s a great meeting point and still dominates the city landscape.

On Sunday 4 November you’ll be able to wander around the ground and first floors, and explore levels 2 and 4 of Town Hall House.

Don't miss the city model on level 2 of Town Hall House and the rarely seen Lady Mayoress' rooms on level 1 of Town Hall.

City of Sydney Fire Station

If you want something to keep the kids happy, put City of Sydney Fire Station on your list.

The station has been operating for 131 years where the original mode of transport to help fight fires was the horse and buggy. The station remained largely the same until 1999 when an application was lodged with the City of Sydney to refurbish and build new amenities.

You’ll learn about the station and see vintage fire engines at the engine bay. Try to schedule your visit to see firefighters staging a display.
