Sydney’s 9pm fireworks display has once again delighted crowds gathered around Sydney harbour.
The 2018 theme Pulse of Sydney inspired new firework effects, including pulsating fireworks. In another first, new wave effect fireworks lit up Sydney harbour with rippling coloured displays.
Set off from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and five barges, the dramatic show also featured new palm firework designs and silver cascading fireworks.
The fireworks were digitally launched by 18 computers linked by more than 60 kilometres of wire and cables to synchronise the pyrotechnic display with the soundtrack.
The soundtrack was created just for children aged six to 10 with tracks including What About Us by P!nk and Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer.
The display featured the ‘Jewel of the Sea’ – the winning entry from 12-year-old South Australian girl Dhrithi for ABC Me’s NYE Design Your Own Firework Competition. Her design was transformed into a blue firework with a glittering white centre.
“The 9pm family fireworks give our younger audience members the chance to be dazzled by the bright lights,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
The fireworks were designed by Sydney’s Foti International Fireworks. This year marks the 22nd consecutive year that Foti International has created the NYE fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight.
Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks are manufactured from biodegradable paper and compounds that dissipate after use to minimise the environmental impact. The City draws on improved technology, energy saving LED and low wattage lighting.
