Art & About Sydney call out for creatives

Published 9 February 2016

Australian and international artists, curators and creatives are being invited to be part of one the country’s best temporary art programs – the City of Sydney’s year-round Art & About Sydney.

Expressions of interest are being sought for specialists in all art forms – visual artists, performers, filmmakers and musicians, writers, composers, theatre companies and architects – to invigorate public and unusual spaces across the city.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the program provided the opportunity to generate art in places where Sydneysiders and visitors least expect it and change the way people look at their city.

“Art & About Sydney celebrates our city’s creativity and imagination, with local and international artists bringing their ideas, wit and unique spirit to the spaces we all share,” said the Lord Mayor.

“Our creative community, and shared celebrations of this creativity, are fundamental to the identity of our city.

“The City of Sydney has long recognised the importance of fostering an environment where ideas and imagination can flourish through grants, public art programs and the encouragement of fine-grain activity.”

Expressions of interest are now open until 3 March. Selected works will be chosen to be exhibited in 2016/2017.

The City will provide financial support ranging from $10,000 to $85,000 for each of the selected projects.

Submissions must demonstrate artistic excellence, an innovative approach, be highly accessible and appeal to a broad audience.

The City is looking for projects and installations that are:

  • Participatory & immersive
  • Site specific/responsive
  • Storytelling/remixing history
  • Performance & live music
  • Street art/murals
  • Emerging artists & companies building their capacity
  • Collaborations
Interested parties are encouraged to visit artandabout.com.au for a copy of the brief and submission guidelines and more details on current and past projects.

Art & About Sydney started as a small festival in 2001 and has grown to an internationally-renowned program that attracts artists and collaborators from across the globe.
