Bring your creativity to the heart of Sydney

Published 26 January 2017

Local and international creatives are invited to bring their biggest artistic ideas to Sydney as part of Art & About Sydney’s year-round creative arts program.

The City of Sydney is seeking innovative and bold ideas from artists around the world that will invite audiences into the city to enjoy one of the country’s best temporary art programs.

The much-loved Art & About Sydney program gives artists of all types the opportunity to create art in places where Sydneysiders and visitors least expect it.

Expressions of interest are open from 24 January to 10 March, with selected projects to be showcased in Sydney from July 2017.

“We’re looking for performers, musicians, painters, theatre companies and producers – creative minds from here and around the world with an artistic idea that will captivate Sydneysiders,” the Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

“Free art and performances in our public spaces are a great way of bringing locals together and encouraging even more visitors to explore our wonderful city.

“The Art & About Sydney program is part of our commitment to ensuring our city remains a lively and interesting place to live and spend time, with a thriving cultural scene.”

The City is looking for temporary projects that demonstrate artistic excellence, are innovative and accessible, and appeal to a broad audience.

Financial support will range from $10,000 to $85,000 to help cover the costs for the presentation of the selected projects.

Art & About Sydney started in 2001 as a small festival and has grown to be an internationally-renowned program that attracts artists and collaborators from across the globe.

Art & About Sydney is an ongoing year-round program of events – a celebration of art in unusual places. Last year the Art & About program included HEARD-SYD, a popular performance of 30 life-size dancing horses, and art installations, such as A Million Things That Make Your Head Spin in Customs House.
