Calling all young happy snappers

Published 16 June 2016

Young photographers are invited to zoom in on the annual Little Sydney Lives competition by submitting their best snaps of Sydney.

Photography enthusiasts aged three to 11 years are encouraged to share their unique take on our city – with the chance to win a $500 photography prize package, and have their work showcased in an outdoor exhibition in Hyde Park.

Little Sydney Lives is the junior counterpart to the prestigious Australian Life $10,000 photography competition.

Twenty images will be selected as finalists for the Little Sydney Lives exhibition, with the competition winner announced at the opening of the exhibition on Thursday 15 September.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Little Sydney Lives was always a big crowd-pleaser, and provides a fascinating and fun insight into the world according to our smallest citizens.

“Little Sydney Lives gives our youngest photographers the opportunity to share their unique perspective on life in Sydney,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Pictures taken by kids really capture the innocence and excitement they feel when they look at our city, and these images inspire people of all ages.

“The competition has grown significantly since we first launched it in 2011, and each year we receive hundreds of images of nature, pets, siblings and cityscapes.

“I’m excited to see what our budding photographers have in store for us this year.”

The City is calling for submissions in two age categories – three to seven and eight to 11 – with the winner of each category winning a photography prize valued at $500.

Last year, three-year-old Bronte McKnight took out honours in the three to seven years age category for an image of her favourite soft toy, titled Unicorn. Imogen Leese, nine, won first prize in the eight to 11 years age category for her ‘selfie’ image, This Is Me.

The Little Sydney Lives competition opens on 17 June and closes on 29 July.
