Calling artists to reshape city spaces

Published 19 July 2018

The City of Sydney's year-round creative arts program is looking for ideas from local and international artists to reshape public spaces across the city and turn them into a living canvas.

Artists of all genres can submit their ideas for the City's 2019/20 Art & About Sydney program until 7 September, with selected projects produced from January 2019.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City is looking for concepts that will surprise and engage people as they explore Sydney's streets and public spaces.

"We've heard loud and clear from our residents and businesses that they want our city to be a place where artists are celebrated and art is accessible to everyone. It's why Art and About remains one of our most popular programs every year," the Lord Mayor said.

"We've started the planning for the next round of events and want artists from around the world to bring us their most ambitious ideas for Sydney. We are particularly interested in major artworks that can temporarily transform spaces across our city in captivating and unusual ways."

The invitation is open to visual artists, curators, collectives, producers, architects, designers and anyone with a big creative idea. Proposals should demonstrate artistic excellence and innovation, be accessible and have appeal for a broad audience.

The City will offer financial support of up to $85,000 to assist with project costs.

Artists can visit artandabout.com.au for a copy of the brief and submission guidelines and more details on current and past projects.
