Christmas tree recycling all wrapped up

Published 16 December 2019

Whether your festive tree is real or fake, the City of Sydney is offering all residents a free Christmas tree pick-up service.

To help residents at this busy time of year, there's no time limit on collections of trees, so the City's free weekly pick-up can be booked in at any time.

Real trees can also be broken down and placed in the green-lid garden organics bins.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the free service was another step in helping reduce rubbish and increase recycling.

"Christmas is a wonderful time of year for bringing friends and families together, but it is vital that we deal with the waste produced responsibly," the Lord Mayor said.

"It's easy to book the City of Sydney's free Christmas tree pick-up service, which will divert real Christmas trees from landfill and create compost or sustainable sources of fuel."

City of Sydney locals can book a Christmas tree pick-up online under bulky household items. The service is free, but bookings are essential.
