Little perspectives of the big city

Published 12 August 2019

Twenty images of siblings, pets, nature and hobbies by Sydney's youngest amateur snappers have been selected as finalists in the Little Sydney Lives photography competition.

A record-breaking 356 images were submitted by children aged 3 to 11 for the City of Sydney's annual Art & About competition.

The finalist images were selected by a panel of award-winning judges: Sydney Morning Herald managing photo editor Mags King, artist Dennis Golding, and artist, academic and Director of Photography at University of Technology Sydney Cherine Fahd.

The finalist images for the junior version of the prestigious Australian Life photography competition will be displayed in an exhibition curated by photographer Sandy Edwards at Sandringham Gardens, north Hyde Park, from 19 September to 13 October.

"'The Little Sydney Lives entries are always fresh, unfiltered visions of the world, and this year is no exception," Ms Edwards said.

"The enthusiasm, creativity and innocence of the children's perspectives of their city is so apparent in their photos."

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the exhibition was a great insight into the fun and creative ways children experience their lives in Sydney.

"The images in our Little Sydney Lives competition are sometimes humorous, often imaginative and always delightful to look at," the Lord Mayor said.

"I can't wait for these photographs to be exhibited in Hyde Park for everyone to enjoy."
