More support to help Sydney ride this October

Posted .

The hills of Sydney Park will turn into a cross country cycling course for dozens of races at the Sydney Rides Festival this October.

‘Cyclocross’ will see experienced riders battle to cross the finish line, along with junior races and a fun fancy dress ride for the young – and young at heart.

It is one of the main events at the opening weekend of the Sydney Rides Festival on Saturday 6 October, marking the start of the popular month-long festival.

Future cycling superstars will also race around Sydney Harbour in a high speed cycling event at White Bay Criterium, Rozelle. The Criterium event will include a new race for young riders in 2018, alongside categories for men and women.

Around 10,000 people are expected to jump on two-wheels for the spectacular Spring Cycle, the state’s biggest bike ride on Sunday 14 October. Free for children, the Spring Cycle includes several ride options, from a 10 kilometre City Ride to a 105 kilometre endurance event from the city to Sydney Olympic Park.

All three events have received financial support in the latest round of City of Sydney grants.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City of Sydney is proud to produce the Sydney Rides Festival with its community partners.

“This year’s Sydney Rides Festival is shaping up to be our biggest and best yet, with fun outdoor activities for the whole family,” said the Lord Mayor.

“Of the 200,000 residents in our local government area, approximately 28,600 residents ride in a typical week – so engaging with bike riders and future cyclists at the Sydney Rides Festival is an excellent way to encourage people to ride more regularly or discover the joy of cycling.”
