New sport stadium for Perry Park

Published 28 November 2016

The City of Sydney is building a new sports stadium in Alexandria to give local netball, basketball and futsal teams another great facility for competition and practice.

The four new multi-purpose courts will be built alongside the existing basketball stadium to create the Perry Park Recreational Facility – a short walk from the new Green Square town centre.

“The new sporting complex will help our residents maintain active, healthy lifestyles,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

“As our population grows, we’re investing in the health and wellbeing of our residents by creating and maintaining open spaces and sporting facilities across the area.

“With more than three quarters of our residents living in apartments, our parks, playgrounds and sporting complexes are essentially ‘the backyard’ for many families. We’re committed to creating and maintaining these valuable open spaces.”

The City has invested more than $270 million over the past 10 years on new or upgraded open space. Since 2004, the City has completed more than 250 major projects including parks, playgrounds, pools and community spaces.

The City maintains 90 playgrounds, 21 tennis courts, 13 outdoor courts, 13 playing fields, eight indoor recreation centres, five aquatic centres, six fitness gyms and four skate parks.
