The next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hip hop, R&B and indie pop artists will play Sydney Town Hall this NAIDOC Week at a free, all-ages live music concert on Thursday 10 July.
3%, Becca Hatch, Bluetongue and TOAH, Jem Cassar-Daley, Mi-kaisha, MINTY and Yung Brother will hit the stage from 7pm. Isaac Compton and Kaylene Langford will host the gig.
Markets featuring First Nations fashion, homewares, food and art will take place at Lower Town Hall from 2:30pm to 8pm the same day. Visitors can also enjoy weaving workshops, acoustic music and dance performances while they shop.
NAIDOC in the City is proudly presented by We Are Warriors in partnership with the City of Sydney.
“NAIDOC Week is a time when we can all get together, celebrate how far we’ve come and look towards the future to how far we’re going to go,” Yuin rapper and We are Warriors Creative Director Nooky said.
“We’ve got Becca Hatch, the up-and-coming Jem Cassar-Daley and a whole heap of other acts – come through on 10 July and see the next generation of Blak talent.”
NAIDOC Week runs 6 to 13 July with the theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’.
This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week celebrations, a time to honour the legacy and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for everybody to learn more about the world’s oldest living cultures,” Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO said.
“We’re delighted to partner with Indigenous social enterprise We are Warriors to put on NAIDOC in the City. Coming along is a great way to get behind First Nations businesses and artists. We hope to see you at Sydney Town Hall on 10 July.”
