No filter required for Sydney’s little snappers

Twenty images captured by our city’s youngest photographers have been selected as finalists in the annual Little Sydney Lives photography competition.

Children aged 3 to 12 years across Sydney captured images of nature, family, pets and toys as their cute and quirky take on life in Sydney.

A panel of judges comprising artist Atong Atem, photographer Sam Ferris and curator Sebastian Goldspink sifted through dozens of entries to select the finalists in two categories – 3 to 7 year-olds and 8 to 12 year-olds.

All 20 finalist images will feature in the outdoor exhibition, curated by photographer Sandy Edwards, in Sandringham Gardens, Hyde Park from 15 September to 9 October.

The images, and the stories behind each photograph, also feature in the Little Sydney Lives online exhibition.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the Little Sydney Lives exhibition has lit up a special corner of Hyde Park for the past 11 years.

“I have always loved the snaps captured by our city’s young photographers and the joy the exhibition brings to visitors as they pass through Hyde Park.

“It’s wonderful to see children tap into their creative side and show us what their take on Sydney life is.

“And it’s very exciting that this year we also have two siblings whose images have been selected as finalists.”

“This year’s selection for Little Sydney Lives is as vibrant and entertaining as ever,” exhibition curator Sandy Edwards said.

Winners in each of the age categories will be announced at the opening of the exhibition on 15 September. Each winner will be awarded $500 in photography equipment and accessories.
