Lord Mayor Clover Moore today welcomed a new plan outlining how the state’s critical infrastructure and emergency response services would be protected during major disasters.
Prepared by the Office of Emergency Management, the NSW Critical Infrastructure Resilience Strategy is the first major action to be launched from the City of Sydney’s Resilient Sydney strategy.
The Resilient Sydney strategy was the first of its kind outlining how Sydney will cope with major challenges such as extreme weather, cyber and terror attacks, housing affordability and congestion.
“The City spent two years working with the 32 other councils across metropolitan Sydney, as well as the NSW Government, 100 business and government organisations and more than 1,000 residents, to develop Resilient Sydney,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
“Everyone involved agreed that collaboration is vital. The fact is no one organisation can solve all our problems – we must work together, across boundaries, to protect and champion the needs and interests of our communities.
“The plan released today by the Office of Emergency Management is the first action to come out of Resilient Sydney and outlines how critical infrastructure will be returned to service as soon as possible after any disruptions.”
The NSW Critical Infrastructure Resilience Strategy commits to delivering:
- more resilient critical infrastructure to reduce service disruptions
- better emergency management arrangements
- stronger relationships between government, business and communities
- planning for critical infrastructure that prioritises resilience, adaptation and mitigation investment.
