Thousands ready to pedal for Sydney’s Big Adventure

Published 21 October 2019

Thousands of people are expected to pedal, skate and jump at Sydney’s biggest pop-up adventure playground at Sydney Park on Saturday 9 November.

The Big Adventure is an enormous screen-free family fun day with activities from bike adventures, mountain boarding and rock climbing to parkour, dancing and hilltop craft flying.

New activities this year include a NSW Police balance bike challenge for kids, and bike helmet painting.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said The Big Adventure is the perfect way for people of all ages to get on their bikes and experience one of Sydney’s best urban parks.

“More and more people are riding bikes in Sydney for transport and leisure. This great day out is an opportunity for families to ride together through the park and stop to enjoy the entertainment on offer,” the Lord Mayor said.

Around 5,000 people took part in last year’s Big Adventure. This year, breathtaking BMX stunt riders will return with four shows, along with the popular unicycle ballet, breakdancers and a silent disco.

Other attractions include the Taronga Zoomobile, eco walking tours, face painting, the City Farm, and kite and paper plane making.

Bring a picnic, feast on gourmet treats from some of Sydney’s top food trucks and enjoy a free bike powered smoothie.

The best way to get to The Big Adventure is to ride a bike or use public transport. St Peters train station is across the road and bikes can be taken on trains for free.

Bike hire and bike parking will be available. There will also be a range of cargo and electric bikes on display and available for test rides.

The Big Adventure is the closing event of Sydney Rides, a season-long celebration of the growing numbers of people bike riding in Sydney. For more information, visit sydneyrides.com
