Lord Mayor Clover Moore officially launched the new Alexandra Canal Depot on Saturday 30 June. Visitors enjoyed music, free coffee and gelato.

This new depot provides waste, maintenance and construction services for the southern city area. It has replaced 3 City of Sydney depots in Zetland, Redfern and Alexandria.

The building was designed with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. It has a 500kwh Tesla battery and 1663 solar panels powering the site, natural ventilation and lighting, roof water collection and energy efficient equipment. Eco-concrete used reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the construction process.
