We've rounded up some of our favourite snaps from the 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.
Sydney’s Mardi Gras began as a protest march in 1978 and has since evolved into a powerful celebration of Australia’s LGBTIQ culture.
The city was brought to a standstill for the colourful celebration.
More than 12,500 people took part in the parade, and more than 300,000 people lined the streets to cheer on 197 showstopping floats.
The theme for the 2019 parade was 'fearless,' an acknowledgment of the way LGBTQI people across the globe courageously express who they are.
The outfits were as bright as the mood in the city centre.
Onlookers dressed for the occasion, and lined the parade route from Hyde Park to Moore Park. Many waited hours to catch a glimpse of the action.
More than 80 City of Sydney staff took part in the parade. They performed a dance routine choreographed by Sydney director Sophie Gospodarczyk to a mash-up of dance anthems soundtracked by leading Sydney DJ Dan Murphy.
The City's float featured neon costumes and flashing LED lights, but not a speck of glitter. This year Sydney Mardi Gras committed to phasing out glitter at the parade, and banned single use plastics like water bottles.
