Our 2021 float was a call to action to come back to the city we love. See it in all its sparkling glory.
40 City of Sydney staff and friends took part in the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade on Saturday 6 March 2021.
The City of Sydney is a major sponsor and supporter of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. 2021 marks the 16th year a City of Sydney entry has participated in the event.
Our 2021 theme is a call to action for everyone to come back and enjoy the city we love. At the same time, it announces Sydney’s love of our vibrant LGBTIQ communities, and our love of Mardi Gras.
“We’ve got the pink wigs, the big silver wings ... because we’re in this massive oval this year at the SCG we really had to make sure it’s something that is visually beautiful for the thousands of people watching from the stadium,” says Sophie Gospodarczyk of Motif Dance productions who choreographed our float.
This year’s parade looked a bit different. For the first time, it took place at Sydney Cricket Ground. But while the location changed, the sparkling spirit remained. It was a loud, proud, celebration of our LGBTIQ communities.
We danced our heart out to We Got Love by Australia’s own Jessica Mauboy.
Thank you to all City of Sydney staff who planned, rehearsed, danced and brought our float to life.
