A star-studded line up for Sydney’s newest outdoor stage

Alex the Astronaut, Ben Lee, Sneaky Sound System, Emma Pask and Peking Duk to open Sunset Piazza in the city centre.

Summer in Sydney just got better. We’ve just announced a pop-up stage with live performances spanning pop, cabaret, comedy, hip-hop, indie rock and opera.

Sunset Piazza will host 32 nights of performances from 28 January to 21 March at Cathedral Square opposite Hyde Park.

The line-up includes pop-folk darling Alex The Astronaut, musical polymath Allday, singer/songwriter Ben Lee, Latin American ensemble Cumbiamuffin, jazz vocalist Emma Pask, classical maverick Ensemble Offspring and beloved queer party starter Heaps Gay.

You can also see Triple J Unearthed Artist of the Year JK-47, hyped MC Kwame, the incomparable Opera Australia, party-ready duo Peking Duk, dancefloor slayers Sneaky Sound System, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra brass ensemble, plus, 2 comedy galas with some of Australia’s funniest comedians.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Sunset Piazza would enliven the city centre with a diverse program of live music and performance.

“Together with the NSW Government, we have invested $20 million into our al fresco city project. Sunset Piazza will extend our long summer nights right through to March and provide affordable and Covid-safe entertainment for residents, workers and visitors.

“Alongside more outdoor dining, lunchtime entertainment and art installations, Sunset Piazza will support local businesses and artists, and bring people back into the city safely.”

Covid safety guidelines

Sunset Piazza is an invitation for Sydneysiders to come out and safely rediscover the city centre this summer. All events will follow Covid-safe regulations and guests are reminded to follow the latest NSW Health advice regarding social distancing, hygiene and staying home if unwell.

With a whole host of new events happening across the city, make the most of your night out in the city by dining outdoors before or after, exploring a museum beforehand, or visiting one of the city’s new public artworks.

Sunset Piazza is part of the Summer in the City program funded by the the NSW Government and City of Sydney.
