There’s more than 1 way to recycle batteries in Sydney

Just don’t put them in your yellow-lid bin at home.

Batteries in hand

Sydney residents are spoilt for choice when they need to recycle their old batteries. It’s no wonder we’ve saved over 22 tonnes from landfill since battery recycling became widely available.

With recycling stations at our libraries and customer service centres, a RecycleSmart home pickup service and local drop-off events, it’s never been easier to give dead batteries a second life.

And they’re super recyclable – more than 90% of an old battery can be turned into a new one.

Just don’t put them in your red or yellow lid bins at home. When they’re picked up by our trucks, they’re crushed in our compactors and leach toxic chemicals that can cause fires.

Better yet, try rechargeable batteries. These can be recharged over 1000 times, which is great for the environment and saves you money too.

Find out how to recycle batteries safely.
