New spaces and places to get creative in Green Square

From crafty corners to curated events, here are 5 great reasons to explore Sydney’s newest town centre.

  • Glorious architecture and more than books to borrow at the Green Square Library

A soaring 6-storey glass tower, a sunken garden and a music room with some of the best views in town. Simply being surrounded by such innovative architecture is inspiring enough, but this public living room has even more to offer. Members can borrow a guitar, keyboard or electronic kit or learn code, robotics or 3D printing in our computer lab workshops. Or grab a #greensquarelibrary selfie in front of the rainbow wall of books.

  • Get crafty at the Joynton Avenue Creative Centre

Another architectural beauty, the Joynton Avenue Creative Centre hosts artist studios, exhibition spaces and maker workshops masterfully curated by those clever kids at 107 Projects. Drop in to one of their free art sessions or low-cost creative workshops.

  • Reuse, repair and revive at the Banga Community Shed

If you’re after a more hands-on fix, the Bower hosts a weekly repair café at the Banga Community Shed. Take a workshop to learn basic skills to test and maintain your appliances. Rent a tool or a bench to complete that personal project. Or ask the handy volunteers to repair your electronic emergency for a small donation.

  • Wonder and walk to 3 interactive pieces of public art

Find 3 delightful artworks all within walking distance of the library. Start inside the library with Cloud Nation, a suspended vintage aircraft with an intricate miniature world built on its wings. Move through the plaza and view the vibrant High Water, a 9-metre tower that represents local weather patterns in splendid watercolours. Finally While I Live I Will Grow offers a giant spiral of sandstones to sit, relax or play among.
